Recreational Genetics

While riding in to work this morning I heard a great report on the BBC. A company called Oxford Ancestors will, for a small fee, analyze your mitochondrial DNA to determine your maternal lineage back 150,000 years to one of seven common female European ancestors. These women made popular by Bryan Sykes book The Seven Daughters of Eve are essentially the mothers of all, at least those of us of European decent. It all comes for a price of 200 pounds. Now our genes are not only a source of serious study but also of recreation.
